The session is not authenticated in VMware

When trying to P2V a physical server, you might get the following error message within your VMware vCenter Converter Standalone:

“The session is not authenticated”

To fix this problem, go into your task manager and kill all the pending VMware converter processes that are currently running.

If this should not work, other solutions can be applied:

  • Verify that servers are synchronized
  • Restart the VMware Converter service
  • Restart the Virtual Center Server
In any case, what is important to remember is that there must be just one instance of converter in execution on both Virtual Center server and physical server to P2V...

  1. I had this problem and try all i could find. The solution for me was that the First, try killing the vmware-converter-a.exe process from task manager. If that does not work, you are probably converting a live machine, so go to that machine and reSTART the 'VMware vCenter Converter Agent' service.
